6 VYS Teams Win Randy Rawls Sportsmanship Award

Six VYS travel teams have combined to set a sportsmanship milestone within ODSL.  For the Fall 2010 season, each of these six VYS teams received the Randy Rawls Sportsmanship Award for their division.  According to ODSL executive Dave Milne, in recent memory no single club has been so honored with such a high total of individual team winners.  Each season the coaches in ODSL vote for a team in their division that exhibits the best sportsmanship.  In addition to the coaches’ votes, sportsmanship points are averaged from each referee report card. This prestigious award is named after Randy Rawls, one of the league’s original founders and its first president.  The award honors the winner’s sense of fair play, something for which Randy was renowned as he sought to bring soccer opportunities to the youth of northern Virginia.  The six award winning VYS teams and their coaches are as follows:

U10 B Raptors Black - William McNulty

U10 G Freedom Blue - Gray Tiller - Asst. Ray Moutinho

U12 B Wave - Juan Cardenas

U12 G Thunder White - Jill Maroney

U14 B Premier Black - Donald Long

U14 G Hurricanes - Marcos Chantel

Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you for representing VYS with superior sportsmanship!
