History of Vienna Youth Soccer
Vienna Youth Soccer, Inc., was established in the fall of 1974.  Since its inception, VYS has continued to grow and prosper with a current enrollment of approximately 3,000 players each season.  VYS sponsors two separate youth soccer programs:  Recreation (House) League and Travel.

The VYS House League is one in which players of all skill levels are allowed to play.  House league players play only against other House league teams within their age group.

The Travel League(s) is one in which a tryout is required to make a team.  Travel players are typically more skilled and competitive.   Travel teams compete against other travel teams in three different leagues:  WAGS (for girls), NCSL (for boys), and ODSL (for girls and boys).

VYS also sponsors an over-30 (years old) parent recreational league, primarily for parents and coaches of VYS players.  The parent league emphasizes understanding the game of soccer, learning soccer skills, non-competitiveness (no league standings are kept), and most of all, a fun athletic endeavor.

Players in VYS are divided into divisions and teams based on their sex and age, starting with U5, to U19 players.  Each age division has a commissioner who divides the players into teams, assigns coaches, determines the game schedules, and arbitrates any disputes.

VYS began in 1974 with only 17 volunteers on the board to operate and manage the VYS organization.  Today, VYS has nearly 50 volunteers on the operations committee to perform the numerous tasks and programs required to run an organization involving 3,000 players.  These numbers do not reflect the large number of volunteer coaches, assistant coaches, team parents, etc.  VYS has a mandatory volunteer program where parents must volunteer or pay a non-volunteer fee, in order for the league to function.
