Welcome to another season of soccer! And a sincere Thank You! to all of our referees for your continued support of VYS.

NEW AND RETURNING REFEREES - Interested in reffing VYS house/recreational club league games and/or VYS home ODSL travel league games assigned by the VYS Referee Assignor?  Then check out the GUIDELINES section for all the information you need to get started in the process of becoming a VYS referee.

See NCSL Referee Information if you want to work NCSL and WAGSL travel league games assigned by others.

The responsibilities of a referee must be taken seriously. Remember that you are the symbol of integrity, the ultimate authority at every game ensuring fair and safe play. Many people including players, coaches, spectators, other referees, and league officials are depending on you to show up on time to your game assignments, prepared to perform your game official duties to the very best of your ability.

Questions? Please contact the VYS Referee Assignor.

Round One of Fall Referee Signup
2014 Fall Season

Welcome or welcome back to Vienna Youth Soccer.  We are looking forward to another great season and you referees are part of what makes VYS such a well run organization.

Prior to Signup

PLEASE READ THE REFEREE GUIDELINES PRIOR TO ONLINE SIGNUP.  ALSO REMEMBER WHAT GRADE YOU ARE CERTIFIED FOR.  GRADE 9 IS LIMITED TO U-14 AND BELOW HOUSE AND MAY ONLY AR TRAVEL GAMES UP TO U-14 (however that will only be allowed after the referee has significant experience at the house level).  Grade 8 referees will receive preference in signup.

Before requesting games you must do the following:

1)      Have provided a Referee Profile to the VYS referee assignor

2)      Mailed your completed W-9 form to VYS

3)      Read the Referee Guidelines on the VYS website.

Round One of Online Referee Signup

I am planning on holding ONLINE referee sign up starting Wednesday, August 27th 12:01 am.  Referees will be able to select 6 games in the first round.  The first round will close Friday, August 29 at 9:00 pm\. DO NOT MAKE ANY REQUESTS BEFORE WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27.

Assignments will be made based on experience and fairness.  My goal is to get everyone at least 10 games if that's what they want to work. If there are siblings, parents or friends that would like to work games together, please email in advance and I will do my best to respect those wishes when assigning.

Assignment Priority

As it is in everyone's best interest to have referees work two consecutive games, priority will be given to referees that request two games in a row. You are limited to two games in a row unless you request to work more games and I say it's ok.

Please don't leave holes in the schedule.  By this I mean if there are six consecutive U10G games, you should either request games 1 & 2 or games 3 & 4 or games 5 & 6.  If you request games 2 & 3, for example, you will likely not get the assignment.

Declined Requests

Please remember that many, many referees will request the same games.  I can only choose one referee per position.  Once sign up closes, I will start assigning games.  If you receive an email saying your request has been declined, you may select another game.  You may select a new game each time you are declined.  You should never have more than 6 games requested at one time.  Therefore, for games that your request is accepted you may not request another game until the second round of sign up is opened.
I know this may seem confusing, especially for those of you new to VYS so feel free to ask questions. Those of you who can't follow the rules (i.e. requesting more than 6 games or making requests prior to Wednesday, August 27), will not get games assigned to you.
You may go to MSL to look at the schedule once it's up.
Again, if you have questions about this process, please feel free to ask.  I would again ask you to review the referee guidelines on the VYS.org website prior to August 27th.
