VYS TopSoccer Volunteers of the Year 2016
Congratulations to Boutia Pourhashemi, Katie Kenny, Helen Roades and Joe Gray.
The VYS TopSoccer Program has honored four outstanding volunteers for the first time since the program launched in 2009.
Boutia Pourhashemi a special education teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools, has guided the coaches, players and Buddies in understanding the unique condition of each player for over six years. Her wealth of knowledge and volunteer sprit has benefited the program tremendously.
Katie Kenny has been an active TopSoccer volunteer with VYS for five years, first as a Buddy and now as a coach. She patiently encourages the most reluctant and cautious players to participate. Her warm and kind demeanor along with her ability to lead others and teach them how to be a Buddy has made her a tremendous asset to the program.
Helen Roades arrives every Saturday afternoon during the fall and spring soccer seasons excited and enthusiastic about serving as a Buddy with the players who have special needs. She welcomes any task graciously and works and trains players patiently. Her smile, commitment and soccer knowledge have helped to improve the children's soccer skills.
Joe Gray has been with the VYS TopSoccer program as a player since its formation. His improved soccer skills as a player along with his warm personality earned Joe a potion as a Buddy. Joe truly loves the game of soccer and enjoys working with players and assisting the coaches.
TopSoccer is a program run by Vienna Youth Soccer where children with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the opportunity to play soccer and games with their peers in a relaxed and supportive environment.
