VYS is proud to announce the hiring of our new Executive Director and Technical Director.
Vienna Youth Soccer is excited to announce the hiring of Catherine Keightley as our new Executive Director and Richard Gunney as our new Technical Director. Catherine and Rich bring deep experience and fantastic leadership to these roles.
As the first VYS Executive Director, Catherine will be responsible for all operational aspects of VYS as it transitions from a volunteer organization to a more professionally structured organization. Catherine will manage the day-to-day decisions and work in partnership with Rich to ensure the soccer programs meet the goals of the club. In addition, she will oversee all the VYS administrative staff.
Catherine is the former Executive Director of Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia, Inc., a local non-profit organization that serves over 7,000 girls each year and whose mission is to use the power of running and a curriculum-based youth development program to enhance the self-confidence and self-esteem of girls in third through eighth grades. Under Keightley's direction, Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia was named 2013 Non-Profit of the Year by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and the organization was also awarded the 2013 Human Resources Leadership Award for Capacity Building and the 2011 INOVA Health System's Healthy Lifestyle MVP Award.

As Technical Director, Rich will be responsible for developing a technical vision and curriculum for all VYS players, both house and travel, and will oversee the VYS technical staff.
Rich, who brings with him a long track record of technical leadership and player development at some of the highest levels of soccer across Europe, is widely regarded for his ability to develop and grow the sport of soccer at all levels. Most recently, he was the National Development Officer of the Wales Soccer Association and the head coach of the Wales Men's National Futsal Team. Rich developed and implemented national technical training and coaching education programs for the WSA at both the youth and elite levels, and has spearheaded award-winning grassroots programs through partnerships with other Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) organizations to bring the soccer experience to players with disabilities. Prior to his appointment by the Soccer Association of Wales, Gunney was the Technical Director for Barclays English Premier League club Fulham FC's Girls Centre of Excellence from 2007 to 2010.

Big thanks to the Executive Director Search Committee (Pete Wacht, Aravind Jagannathan, Simon Hamilton, Sheila Murphy, Barry Faulkner and Valerie Murphy) for the countless hours they devoted to this effort and to the Board of Directors for their significant efforts in both searches.
With the hiring of Catherine and Rich, the VYS partnership with the Washington Spirit, and ODP training and Super Y coming to Vienna this summer, it's absolutely an exciting time for VYS. The future is very bright!
