Player Safety

VYS is committed to providing a safe environment for all players and preventing abusive conduct in any form. VYS has zero tolerance for abuse in all ages, programs, and club activities.

It is the responsibility of every coach, volunteer, parent, and player to participate in the collaborative effort to ensure our athletes are protected while enjoying the game they love.

All VYS Staff and Volunteers are required to complete the required screening process prior volunteering in VYS activities.

Club Screening

Background Check

In conjunction with VYSA the club runs background checks on every VYS volunteer over the age of 18. Invitations to background checks are provided through Trusted Employee and are valid for 2 years and are subject to additional screening.

SAFESPORT

All Team Officials rostered on travel and recreational (house) teams will be required to complete the SafeSport training. The SafeSport training will be valid for 1 year, with a refresher course required each year after.

VYS Child Misconduct Report Form

When a report of abuse or misconduct is submitted to VYS—either directly through SafeSport, by phone at 833-5US-SAFE (587-7233), or through the form below—the club initiates a series of steps to fairly and efficiently assess and resolve the issue brought forth that affects these individuals in an investigation.

Reporting

Given VYS’s zero tolerance for abuse, we encourage creating a safe environment for members to come forward regarding matters that place an athlete or club member at risk. Coaches, volunteers, parents, and players are expected to report any sexual misconduct, inappropriate or suspicious behaviors to the club through our Child Misconduct Report Form or through SafeSport directly.

All instances of suspected Child Abuse or Child Sexual Abuse are required to be reported within 24 hours. All reports of inappropriate behaviors or suspicions of abuse will be reviewed and investigated thoroughly. Next steps will then be determined in order of compliance with Federal Law and SafeSport Policies.

If you are unsure as to whether you should report a situation, please report it, it could help someone. To file a report, please use the Child Misconduct Report Form.

Education

In addition to providing proper education to coaches, staff and volunteers, SafeSport also offers free courses and toolkits for parents and athletes. These resources serve as an introduction in creating a welcoming environment in sports, allowing more people the ability to identify misconduct when it happens, and take action to protect our athletes. Courses are age specific and can be found using the links below:
