October 28, 2022

Construction has begun on a brand-new futsal court at Cedar Lane school. This will be the second court VYS has brought to Vienna, with the first back in the spring at Cunningham Park. The club was awarded a fast-tracked Ignite Partnership designation by FCPS to further signify the commitment to building the community with this ongoing project.

The official launch date for the Cedar Lane court will be November 30th. FCPS wrote about the Futsal movement in their recent newsletter, check out their story piece for yourself!

A futsal court is a small, customized, hard mini-pitch that benefits the technical development of players at all levels and ages, from grassroots and recreational participation to advanced elite development. In futsal, players are more involved in the game, both in attacking and defensive situations, as they are competing in smaller-sided games which require more touches and footwork.

Futsal is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. It’s played in every major country and some of the greatest soccer players credit playing futsal in the off-season as the reason for their exceptional ball handling skills. Futsal can provide VYS players a unique environment in which they can express their creativity and improve their skills. The club believes that the court will not only benefit players, but the community as well, through developing relationships and promoting social inclusion.

The mission of VYS is to provide the opportunity for children of all abilities living in and near Vienna to be involved in a high-quality soccer experience. The club is committed to creating a positive culture in which coaches, parents, fans, officials and players have the tools and training to work together to achieve our mission and experience the meaning of A Lifetime of Soccer.

VYS Futsal Programs

During the Summer of 2022, VYS hosted futsal skill training. This program focused on nurturing every player’s individual skills, game intelligence and confidence. Our academy staff designs each session to maximize touches on the ball and decision-making opportunities in tight spaces going to goals. Adding Futsal to a player’s training schedule also improves 1v1 skills & creativity, balance, agility, coordination, and overall comfort level and mastery with the ball. This program will also be offered in Summer 2023.

In addition to the Skill Training program, VYS will also be offering a Summer Futsal League during Summer 2023 to players of all levels from U8-U12. The League offers development, fast-paced play, and fun for kids who are new to futsal or those who have played before! The goal of the program is to maximize player enjoyment in a small-sided, competitive, and fun environment with experienced trainers.  The Recreational Futsal games will utilize futsal goals and balls and be played on multi-sport hard court surfaces and/or turf fields.

There are many components to the beautiful game we love, and unfortunately, like any sport, injuries are a part of it. While we work tirelessly to ensure our players are in top shape on and off the field, you should always be prepared for any situation. This raises the question, how do you know if an injury is readily manageable or if medical assistance is needed? Our partners and soccer specialists at The Jackson Clinics have developed a short video series for VYS outlining how to identify pain points for common soccer injuries along with the proper actions to take in order to prevent further damage. You can find all information on the proper assessments below or on our Player Performance page.
